Allow users to disable badge notifications for specific conversations in messenger

I don't want badge notifications for every message of a group chat, but depend on these notifications for most other conversations. Swiping left on the conversation in the list, and tapping the purple bell is the common resolution I see here, but that doesn't disable badge notifications. This is frustrating enough to sell my iPhone. Please find a resolution to this basic problem.
