Connect Apple TV box to older Sony Bravia TV

How to make an Apple TV box work with a 2011 Sony Bravia tv that has a HMDI port and USB ports? I don’t have a cable connection but do have our active home wireless Xfinity wifi modem. Do I need any other cables or adapters?

thank you

mike

Hello Michael Brinson,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps will help you connect your Apple TV with your TV:

"Set Up Apple TV

Before you start, make sure you know your wireless network name (and password if the network is password-protected). If you’re using a wired network, use an Ethernet cable to connect your Apple TV.

Note: Ethernet is not available on Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi.

  1. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your Apple TV, then connect the other end to the HDMI port on your TV.
  2. Connect one end of the power cord to the power port on your Apple TV and the other end to a power outlet.
  3. Turn on your TV, then select the HDMI input that’s connected to your Apple TV. On some televisions, this may occur automatically.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to set your internet connection, single sign-on, and other setup items. See Set up single sign-on with your TV provider on Apple TV."

More details can be found here: Set up Apple TV

If the issue persists can you provide a few more details? What happens when you connect your Appel TV via HDMI? Are you seeing any errors or alerts? Also, which Apple TV and tvOS version are you using?

Cheers!
