iPhone 14 Screen Randomly Goes Black and Nothing Works

I have only had my iPhone 14 since September 2022 and starting in about December 2022 the phone screen just randomly goes black and no matter what I do the screen does not show up again for minutes. When paying almost $1,000 for a phone it better work perfectly, 24/7, and now mine does not. I don't feel I should have to do anything to correct this problem I think the phone is defective. I have seen other posts regarding similar issues that say to press the volume up key, the volume down key and then the power button. The problem is, I don't want to, I simply want this problem fixed. Hopefully it is a widespread enough problem what Apple will issue a patch in it's latest iOS update (16.3.1) that I am downloading right now. Otherwise I am taking this defective phone, because that is what it is, to an Apple Store and demanding a new one since I am still well within the one year regular Apple Care warranty and have never had a defective iPhone since I started using them in 2007.

Hi,

The issue doesn’t sound even remotely close to being associated to a defective device.

It sounds like you are experiencing a software related issue. When an issue is software related, this means that the iOS running on the device either needs to be updated and/or reinstalled. (If a simple force restart does not resolve the issue.)

I would recommend confirming that your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS in Settings > General > Software Update. If it’s not, update it and then confirm if the issue persists.

If it does persist, reinstall iOS using a Mac or PC, or via an appointment at an ARS. This will completely resolve all software related issues, which are also not covered by Limited Warranty.

Hope this helps!

There is a high likelihood that a forced restart would fix the issue. And, it doesn't take very long to find out. It might well save you a trip to the Apple Store.

However, if you bought the phone from Apple within the last 14 days, you can certainly take it back for any reason. If you're beyond 14 days, make an appointment at the Genius Bar (skip this if you're just returning it) and have them look at it. I can tell you right now that one of the first things they will try is a forced restart.
