How to install Final Cut Pro X on an older Mac

Hello the community,

I had to use an 2012 iMac because my recent MacBook Pro died. The iMac I am using now cannot be upgraded after OS Catalina 10.15.3 so when I try to download FCP X from the App Store it says I can't download it because Mac OS 11.5.1 is required.

I definitely can't buy a new Mac right now. And I don't want a cracked version. Has anyone found a legal solution?

Thanks a lot for your help.

You don’t have to but it again. Go to the App Store with your Apple ID used to buy the application but not to the FCP page. Click the button in the lower left to access your Purchased page. Find the application there and download it from there.

If you can access a friend’s computer running at least Big Sur, you can use that to buy FCP using YOUR Apple ID.

Once you have already bought the application you can download an older version in your mac.

HOWEVER, do consider if you want to spend $300 and only be able to use an old version on an old computer. Maybe the free iMovie or the free version of DaVinci Resolve can do what you need.

Thanks again for the quick answer Tom.

I opened the App Store > Clicked the button in the lower left which is my name with my picture > My account page opened > I found Final Cut Pro in the middle of all the applications I purchased > clicked on FCP X's the little cloud to download it again but it says the same thing. The current version requires MacOS 11.5.1 etc...
