Third party apps can’t scan barcodes/QR codes on iPhone 14 Pro

Various third party apps (Goodreads, Moe’s, multiple QR readers) in the iPhone 14 Pro can’t scan. If I hold the camera close to the barcode the app won’t switch to the macro camera like it should. This works fine in first party apps but does not in third party apps. It works as intended on my wife’s iPhone 11 but not on the 14 Pro

Hi LPodyssey07,


Since this is happening in 3rd party apps and not in Apple apps, you'll want to troubleshoot that specific app.


You can start by checking for any app updates and installed them.


  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to see any pending updates
  4. Tap Update next to the apps
