I’m trying to watch a film I purchased (Mulholland Drive) on my smart tv via the Apple TV app. However I instead get the above message. Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to get a resolution? I suspect the issue has something to do with iTunes Extras as I know they are unavailable via the iTunes app. However I want to watch the film - not the extras. I tried contacting Apple but they were no help.

All they could suggest is deleting the film from the iTunes library then downloading it again. I have no idea what they are talking about. I’ve never downloaded a film in my iTunes library! All I want to do is watch the film on my tv via the Apple TV app - same as all my other films I’ve purchased via the Apple TV app.

I tried contacting Apple but they were no help.

How so? They should be able to help diagnose why it doesn’t work, and tell what can be done about it.

Philips 48OLED806

That seems like a very nice TV. Philips TVs with Android TV operating system v8 or later should be supported for downloading and using the Apple TV app on there.

Please verify that the TV system software is up-to-date.

Please verify that the app is up-to-date. Delete and reinstall when in doubt.

Note that this TV is not AirPlay-enabled, so you can’t stream Apple content to it wirelessly from another device. You have to use the app on the smart TV, or on a TV-connected streaming device.

I’m sorry to hear they misunderstood you. Please try contacting Support again. Hopefully you’ll get a different staff member. If you feel misunderstood and can’t explain it better, then do ask for a supervisor or different expert knowledgable on this topic of iTunes Store movies.

If they can’t offer a working solution, then you may ask for a refund. Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support.
