Ipad Pro M1 12.9 Stage manager windows and keyboard switch/ collision issue

Hello,

Seems that with Ipad OS 16.3 when I have stage manager on and two windows or more opened on the screen, If I type something on the main window and the keyboard overlaps with another window when I hit enter or a button that overlaps that secondary window , it switches to that second window and closes the keyboard, it is like the keyboard has no collision :). Does anyone else have this issue and have you managed to solve it ? It is extremely annoying when trying to multitask end renders typing unusable in stage manager mode without a physical keyboard.

iPad Pro, 12.9-inch, 6th Gen, Wi-Fi

So, I think I might have figured mine out. Not to sound like “typical support” BUT I did a restart in a specific way, and it seems to be working now.

I did this:

At the Home Screen, made sure to turn off stage manager

closed all apps in background

Shut down iPad using Power + Volume button

Powered back up

Re-enabled stage manager and tested. Seems ok. 😬

I am running iPadOS 16.3.1 Developer Beta

Curious if it works for you. I figured maybe it had something to do with the way it’s “stacking” the open apps in the background… but I really don’t know.

Yes, I have restarted my Ipad but the issues keeps appearing. Basically as mentioned if I have two windows opened and lets say safari and notes, if i start typing in notes and safari overlaps with the keyboard in the background when I press any button that overlaps safari it will switch to safari, it is like the keyboard does not have colosion.

Hey Tech23_gg,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Have you restarted the iPad? Restarts have helped with software related issues. We've provided the steps below, and also included the article: Restart your iPad.

How to restart an iPad without a Home button

1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

The information in this article may help: Move, resize, and organize windows with Stage Manager on iPad. It provides great information about organizing, resizing, and moving windows.

Take care.
