Message send failure

Since updating to iOS 16

and then 16.3, I’ve had nothing but problems in regards to messaging. I receive messages like this and when I send photos/videos, it’s a blank message, as if I just texted a single space bar to someone.

Hi DocOwles25,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

  1. Have you had the chance to restart your device? Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Are you experiencing the issue with certain contacts only?
  3. Are you experiencing the issue when using cellular data, Wi-Fi, or both?
  4. Are you also experiencing the issue with SMS/MMS?

In the meantime, let's make sure that your available storage is not extremely low as it may affect your device's performance.

  1. Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses.
  2. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.

In the detailed view you can:

  • Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data.
  • Delete the app, which removes the app and its related data.
  • Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of its documents and data.

The rest of the steps in the article below may also help.

Also, do you have a different Apple device that is signed in to the same Apple ID?

If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue with your other device?

These details can also help us in isolating the issue.

Please keep us posted.

Take care!

I can send/receive iMessages with no issues unless it’s a photo/video, on cellular or wifi, and it occurs with all contacts so far. If I turn off iMessages then I can send/receive photos/videos with no issues.

I have turned off my phone, turned off/on iMessages, and have several gigs of storage space available. I had no issues prior to installing iOS 16.2 and 16.3. My wife has had the exact same issues as me on her iPhone. This is the only Apple ID I have and this is the only device I have. Like I said, all was well prior to installing the update.
