Aperture Library

Hi people,

I have an old Aperture Library (about 146GB in size) and I am trying to retrieve it. If I try to open it with Photos it says:

Cannot open migrated library

The content of the Aperture library “Aperture Library” has already been migrated to Photos. Open Photos to view your library or use a compatible version of Aperture to open this Aperture library.

Of course nothing has been migrated to Photos, the pop up has a button with "Learn more" which takes to this page: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204259

(page not found)

Now, I can open the package, go to the folder Master and retrive the original files, but I would love to be able to open it in a proper way.

I am on Venture 13.1

Thanks for any help.

Luca

Try to change the filename extension of your Aperture Library back to .aplibrary . When you first opened it, Photos has changed the extension to .migratedaplibrary . This tells Photos, that you already have a migrated Photos Library.

You can change the extension in the Info in the Finder, where it says "name and extension".

Changing the extension will however not work, if you already are using macOS 13 Ventura.

It is no longer possible to open Aperture Libraries on Ventura. The last system version supoorting this hass been macOS 12 Monterey.

Now, on Ventura, we can only import photos from the Aperture Library into the Photos Library, but no longer open The Aperture Library for browsing in Photos. See this link: Migrating an Aperture Library to Photos a… - Apple Community

Unfortunately I get this message:

The library could not be opened.

The library version for “Aperture Library.aplibrary” is not supported. It can be opened with macOS Monterey (version 12) or earlier. Alternatively, you can use Library Import to add photos from one library into another.

However, following what the messages says, using the Import function in Photos it shows the 9000+ photos and I guess it lets me import them even thought they are not in their albums, but I guess better than nothing.

Thanks for your reply.
