Running OS Monterey from an external disk

I have installed Monterey via a boot disk on an external disk and can start up my iMac 27” with it. However, the internal drive of the computer, that has Ventura installed on it, doesn’t show up on the desktop. The whole idea was to run it with Monterey again and use applications that now don’t work with Ventura anymore. Is there a way to have the built-in hard drive to appear on the desktop so all programs and documents on it are accessible?

iMac 27″, macOS 12.6

You may have your Finder Preferences in Monterey set to not show "Hard Disks."

If you:

1) open a Finder window and right-click (or CTRL-Click) on the Window title and back go to the highest level OR

2) Use Go to Folder and put in /Volumes/

Can you see the Ventura drive?

Thanks, you are right. I'll make another external startup, including the Time Machine backup. It's just for running certain programs that have dropped out when I, unwisely, upgraded to Ventura. Many thanks again!

I totally get it. Just a couple of weeks ago, I spent a few hours working on my Mojave backups just for those few 32 bit apps that I may want to run an old project on (and a couple of games my kids like). I'm going to have to keep the Intel-based machine around for those as well though! 😂

Haha! It's always the simple things.

Accessibility sounds like a Permissions issue. I'm not comfortable suggesting that you play with Permissions on your internal drive.

Thanks, silly me, finder preferences, of course. I can see the disk, but all folders of my account are inaccessible (have red "no entry" signs on them. Any idea how to fix that? Thanks again!
