Alias icons in dock folder not displaying correctly.

I have my personal work folder as a shortcut in the dock. When I click on it I get the grid view of the contents of the folder showing the items contained in the folder. All the items within my this folder are other folders of which some are aliases to other folders. Having upgraded to MacOS13 Ventura, all the alias folders are shown as a generic document (see attached) rather than as folders. This happens irrespective of where the aliases point and irrespective of the view (grid/fan etc) in the dock. If I open the root folder in finder, the alias folders all look as normal/expected - it's only in the dock where the problem is.

Anyone have a solution? I'm on OS13.2 (i.e. the most up-to-date).

Try right clicking on the folder in the Dock, then choose 'Stack'. Then again and change back to 'Folder'. Does that rebuild the images then? If that doesn't fix it, try removing the folder in the dock and then re-add it.

This has happened for me on multiple computers after upgrading to Ventura.

The exception to the aliases using generic icons is if I made an alias of a folder that had a custom icon added to it. Those custom folder icons show up in the dock folders.

Thanks for the response J-necromancer.

At least I'm not the only one to have it happen...

I find it curious that more people haven't commented... perhaps others don't use alias icons!

I wonder if Apple are aware of the issue...

Well, it's still not working...

I've tried replacing the generic icons with custom ones - that didn't work.

I've tried binning the dock preferences file and restarting - no difference.

One article I've read does point to a file in the Finder package (/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/Aliases) which I don't have... Is this the problem? If yes, what can I do about it?!

Another I've seen says to delete the file "IconCache.db" but I can't find that either...

All thoughts gratefully received...
