13-inch, 2020 Macbook Pro, touch bar flickers randomly with bright lights. Also computer locks up and restarts itself several times a day.

I have a 13-inch, 2020 MacBook Pro. The touch bar flickers randomly with bright lights. I put a long piece of black tape over the touch bar and don't use it. I don't know if this is related or a separate issue, but it locks up and restarts several times a day. I ran the Apple diagnostics, and it said it didn't find any problems with my hardware. I have the latest software updates. The last crash report looked like this:

JazzerStone,

At this time, we suggest that you use Apple Diagnostics to verify if there is a hardware issue with your Touch Bar or if another component could be the cause of the issue:

"Prepare your Mac

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Disconnect all external devices except keyboard, mouse, display, Ethernet connection (if applicable), and connection to AC power.
  3. Make sure that your Mac is on a hard, flat, stable surface with good ventilation.

Start Apple Diagnostics

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

  1. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release when you see the startup options window, which includes a gear icon labeled Options.
  3. Press Command (⌘)-D on your keyboard.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold the D key on your keyboard as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release when you see a progress bar or you're asked to choose a language.

View the test results

Apple Diagnostics shows a progress bar while it's checking your Mac:

When testing is complete, Apple Diagnostics shows the results, including one or more reference codes. Learn about Apple Diagnostics reference codes.

macOS Diagnostics results. No issues found.

To repeat the test, click “Run the test again” or press Command-R.

To restart your Mac, click Restart or press R.

To shut down, click Shut Down or press S.

To get information about your service and support options, make sure that your Mac is connected to the internet, then click ”Get started” or press Command-G. Your Mac will restart to a webpage with more information. When you're done, choose Restart or Shut Down from the Apple menu.

Hi JazzerStone,

Does this happen when using a specific app or performing a specific task? You can start your Mac up in safe mode to see if this continues to occur? Safe mode prevent certain software and processes from starting up, checks your startup disk and clears out your cache. This can help when experiencing unexpected issue and it will help isolate this issue a bit more.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Hope that helps!
