Auto-pause does not work on custom running workouts?

Hello,

I have auto-pause switched on for my running workouts on my Apple Watch and it is very helpful. However, I have noticed that auto-pause does not kick in when I select a custom workout. Is this expected? It works fine for other run types like distance or time (I have not tried the "Race Route" feature yet), and for bike workouts.

I do my speed workouts on the streets and still have to stop for intersections, etc, so it would be great if I could get this working instead of having to remember to pause just for this specific workout type. I have a Series 8 watch running watchOS 9.2.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Automatic pausing is currently only available for running and cycling workouts so it sounds like it is working as expected. Check out the following section of Adjust the workout settings on Apple Watch.

"Pause running and cycling workouts automatically

Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
Tap Workout, then turn on Auto-Pause.

Your Apple Watch automatically pauses and resumes your outdoor running and cycling workouts—for example, if you stop to cross the street or get a drink of water. You can manually pause your workouts by pressing the side button and Digital Crown at the same time."

It would help if you do just one run using the basic outdoor run workout. If auto-pause works then you answered your question.

Hello,

To clarify, the workout auto pause is not working on is a running workout. Based on what you are saying, it sounds like auto pause should work for that workout type. Please advise.
