you shut down your computer because of a problem

I see this message appearing any time I start the computer.

I know the reason why it switched off abnormally (lack of power supply), but it should disappear after a normal restart (normal swirch off and then switch on).

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

Thanks for your answer.

I did the following steps:

  1. Restart in Safe Mode. The message does not appear , no specific message or error is highlighted.
  2. Switch off.
  3. Switch on in normal mode. The message appears again.
  4. Switch off.
  5. Switch on in normal mode with guest user. The message appears again.
  6. After a new switch off, I downloaded and run Etrecheck, the report is attached here

Apart this message the computer seems working normally.

Could the Operating System re-installation solve?

Thanks a lot in advance

Paolo

1  - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

There are many reasons that causes MacBook system randomly shutting down, few of the main reasons are:

1. Depleted battery

2. Outdated version of macOS

3. Disk and software errors

4. Peripherals causing malfunction

5. Kernel errors caused by third-party apps

To fix the MacBook random shutting down issue, you can try the below fixes:

1. Shut down your mac properly

2. Run Disk Utility

3. Check the battery health

4. Check for malware

5. Update macOS

Hope it helps!

Thank you again for the Report.

Have picked out Only items from the Report I believe are important to this issue of Improper Shutdown message

Q - Clean up - There are orphan files that could be removed.

A - Self explanatory

Q - Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. These files could be old, incompatible, and cause problems. They should be reviewed.

A - Also Self explanatory and with checking Third Part Software, extensions and Drivers are Monterey Compatible

Q - System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background.

A - Running large number of system modifications can occur by User purposeful actions and / or by Third Party Installed and used on the computer.

A - This conditions tends to make the System (computer ) less reliable and can led to unintended consequence such s what is happening now.

Hardware Information:

Q - Mac mini (Late 2014)

Mac mini Model: Macmini7,1

A - Niece machine and have 1 from 2011. But I know it will eventual need to be replaced even after Replacing the Fusion Drive with a 500 GB SSD Drive and upgrading to Max RAM

Drives:

Q - disk0 - APPLE SSD SM0128G 121.33 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

disk0 - APPLE SSD SM0128G 121.33 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

Internal PCI 5.0 GT/s x2 Serial ATA

disk0s1 - EFI (MS-DOS FAT32) [EFI] 210 MB

disk0s2 [APFS Fusion Drive] 121.12 GB

disk1 - APPLE HDD HTS541010A9E662 1.00 TB (Mechanical - 5400 RPM)

A - Fusion Drive are good for extra Storage but will receive a major Decrease in Performance in basically Big Sur macOS 11 and above

A - The Newer versions of macOS 11, 12, 13 are all basically designed by Apple to run on a ALL SSD Drive >> IMHO

Q - External USB 5 Gbit/s USB

disk4 - SAMSUNG HD501LJ 500.11 GB

Q - External USB 480 Mbit/s USB

A - The Improper Shutdown message maybe related to either of the two External Drives.

A - Suggest try running the machine and properly Dismounting both Drive Before shutting down and see if the issue presents what going a Restart.

I applied some of the advises of the etrecheck report, cleaning up some files and garbage and apparently the problem seems solved since the message does no more appear. Even if I do not know what specifically caused the problem ;-)

As far as is concening your overall considerations about the machine, I could agree, but this specific model is not upgreadable and however would not be convenient since the new M2 models have a very good price performance.

I will go on a bit more with this one even if I can no more install the new operating system versions.

I thank you very much for your advises and support! I really appreciated
