Removing old contact numbers in iMessage

I keep getting old phone numbers for contacts coming up in iMessage even when I've changed them in the contacts app. How do I delete the numbers from iMessage? They've long been deleted from my Contacts app. This happens on my Mac Mini and iPhone. The devices have the latest updates and have been restarted.

Text message defaults to old number I am trying to send messages to a someone that updated their phone number. I deleted the old number out of the contact list. But when I try to send a message to the new number iMessage somehow defaults to the old number. It is strange because in my message folder the number number shows the message. Then a few seconds later I see the same message in my message folder going to both numbers. And then a bit later the new number is gone and it only shows the old number. That old number does have a text history, but it is no longer in my contact list! I don’t want to delete the text history; is there anything else I can try?

How do I remove greyed-out business numbers from iMessage contact suggestions? When I go to start a new iMessage and type in c to reach one of my contacts I’m inundated with a list of greyed out numbers “Calluson..” the numbers are all businesses I’ve had recent contact with. None of them are saved contacts. I’ve already tried deleting the numbers from my call list, and tried turning off synching. It’s driving me nuts.. help! [Edited by Moderator]

I wonder if it gets them the same place Mail does?

Mail>Window>Previous Recipients, highlight the ones you don't want & click the Remove from list button.
