Universal control seems to conflict with the Music app's Airplay.

I have two Macs and use Universal Control. As soon as I enable AirPlay in Music App to stream on both Macs, Universal Control stops working.

Example :

Mac 1 (M1) shares keyboard/mouse to control Mac 2 (Intel).

Mac 1 plays Music and enable Airplay to play on Mac 1 and Mac 2.

Suddenly shared keyboard/mouse from Mac 1 cannot "reach" Mac 2.

Hello irolley,

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

1. Does this only happen when using Universal Control and the Music app with AirPlay, or does it happen at other times as well?

2. Do you receive a specific error every time the issue happens? If so, what is the exact error?

The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

Please also be sure to review all of the information outlined in the link you came from, to ensure the requirements are met to use Universal Control, so we can make sure there's no issue there: Universal Control: Use a single keyboard and mouse between Mac and iPad

Turn on Universal Control

Before continuing, make sure that each device meets the Universal Control system requirements, including that each is signed in with the same Apple ID, and Universal Control is turned on.

On your Mac

1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences).
2. Click Displays.
3. If using macOS Ventura or later, click the Advanced button at the bottom of the settings window.
4. Turn on “Allow your pointer and keyboard to move between any nearby Mac or iPad.” Leave the other Universal Control settings turned on for now.

On your iPad

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap General, then tap AirPlay & Handoff.
3. Turn on Cursor and Keyboard. This setting is available only on iPad models that support Universal Control.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for your reply :)

1. Does this only happen when using Universal Control and the Music app with AirPlay, or does it happen at other times as well?

Separately both work perfectly (Universal Control is amazing - AirPlay works very well as well). The problem is when I enable both at the same time on the same Macs : "AirPlay between 2 Macs doing Universal Control".

Universal Control between 2 Macs with AirPlay to HomePods does not reproduce this issue.

2. Do you receive a specific error every time the issue happens? If so, what is the exact error?

No error message - just UC stops working: As soon as I enable AirPlay to the second Mac I can't "reach" that second Mac (by moving the mouse to the side of the screen).

I really seems like AirPlay and UC interfere with each other.

Thanks
