Ventura SD Card Bug

When transferring video files from an SDXC memory card (formatted in Sony A7SIII camera) inserted into the Mac Studio's slot, the process will freeze part way through, with the only solution being to forcibly remove the card. Sometimes the transfer progress bar window will not show up, and other times it will even cause finder and all other apps to become unresponsive. I only notice this happening since Ventura 13.1 and 13.2. These cards are working properly on other devices and are not corrupted. Can someone from Apple please lend me some insight? I'm wondering if I need to install an older OS. Thanks!

I have heard other similar reports...

Try a different brand card ...

try formatting in other than Sony A7SIII camera...

Thanks, leroydouglas I have submitted a bug report on this subject for both Mac OS Ventura and Mac Studio.

Unfortunately, I cannot troubleshoot your second piece of advice as it involves extra money to change the fully functional equipment my work has provided for me, instead of addressing the root issue.

It should also be mentioned that this behavior continues even when using an external card reader connected via USB-C/lightning port.

Hi Luis, good point on formatting in the Mac itself and then using it in the camera. That could be what leroydouglas was referring to as well.

I erased the card in the disk utility (formatted in exFat) and renamed it to something specific. Before it was called "Unnamed," so that could've been contributing to the issue.

I haven't experienced any issues with a few mid-sized files, so I'll keep trying and report back. The odd thing is that this freezing behavior happens unpredictably. Sometimes it will copy over the first file, and hang on the second or third.
