Extremely slow sync of iCloud for Windows and extremely high IO/reads 25,754,355,600 and growing every second

I have just upgraded to iCloud for Windows, as previously I noticed the old version is not capable of syncing photos from shared library (from latest IOS).

Now I can see Shared Library being sync but its extremely slow, I also noticed that I have IO/reads of 25,754,355,600 and growing every second.

I left my pc running for 3 days and the sync of 3000+ pending files still not complete.

I have 2GB of Fiber network so it can't be a network issue, also previously syncing files is quick.

Overall I have 43,606 files from iCloud Photos folder and only 3K pending. (Again I already have these files, I just upgraded and it detected 3K+ files pending).

It's very, very , very slow. I've had the problem for several years on various computers. What takes One Drive 20 mins can take several days with the iCloud with the same set up. Stoppping, starting, locking files. No ammount of updating or re-installing seems to solve the problem. It's just a long way behind competitors, so so slow.

It is the only Apple product that I have a problem with.

Hello tomskywatcher,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with iCloud for Windows and transferring photos. It looks like that is quite a library to sync. How long it takes depends on the speed of your internet connection and how much data is transferring. This can take quite a bit of time.

This article goes over using iCloud Shared Photo Library here: Use iCloud Shared Photo Library on your Windows computer - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
