every file manager freezing and crashing when plugging ipod classic in

whenever i plug in my ipod classic 160gb, windows explorer can recognize it and names it "USB Drive", but whenever i right click it, explorer completely crashes, and whenever i try to open it it gets stuck. on itunes, it just freezes whenever the ipod is plugged in and unfreezes when it gets unplugged. ive tried putting it into disk mode but that didnt help. the ipod seems to be working perfectly fine with no corruption that i can see. ive also tried winamp but it doesnt detect it and does a similar thing to explorer where it just crashes. im using windows 10 64x
