The slideshow option on both my iPad and iPhone has disappeared since updating.

Are you referring to creating or viewing slideshows in the Photos app? If so, the support article Play videos and slideshows in the Photos app on iPad outlines the steps to make or view those. As you posted in the Business and Education section of Apple Support Communities, it would also be necessary to confirm this feature has not been restricted if your devices are managed by a company or school.
If your devices are not managed or restricted and the steps from that page don't help, you may use Apple Support to investigate further with Apple directly.
