Poor music quality when using Apple car play

I want to know if anyone else is experiencing the same issues I’m having with Apple car play.

Problem: Apple car play is producing poor sound quality when plugged directly into my car via lighting cable. As of today 1/21/23, I am up to date with the latest IOS. The music isn’t coming out clear and the quality drops when I’m connect with car play through out all the frequencies (ex: poor bass). My Bluetooth is producing better quality than apple car play lately. I would expect the opposite considering that I am directly connected to my car audio head unit when I use car play. I really enjoy the Apple car play interface but I can’t get the quality I used to get from it no matter how many times I reset my radio and/or phone. I am using apples music app. Is any one else experiencing the same issue or has a solution to the problem? I already played around with the settings and all my music is directly downloaded to my library via the music app.

Hi A0-93,

We'll be glad to look into this with you further. For general issues with CarPlay (since there isn't particularly a "quality" option that can be set), we'd recommend trying all of the steps outlined here to see if it resolves your issue: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

"Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. If your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, follow these steps—checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.
  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
  6. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

If you still have issues connecting to CarPlay, contact Apple Support."

We hope this helps you out.

Cheers.
