Auto Lock Does Not Function Properly

I have a brand new iPhone 14 pro. Out of the box, the Auto-Lock was set to 5 minutes as this was what was set on my previous iPhone when i migrated to the new one.

However, when you engage the screen (touch it) the screen comes up but only stays up maybe 10-15 seconds and shuts off. No matter what setting your set it to in Auto-Lock, the screen goes away in a few seconds.

I have checked to see if Low Power Mode is on and it is NOT. It is NOT in Do Not Disturb mode either (DND was set 11pm-7am and I was trying this at 10:30pm. Auto-On Display is set to on but I have Wallpaper off.

Do I have a defective unit? My previous phone, an iPhone 11 Pro, honors the Auto-Lock setting just fine.

it's driving me kinda crazy!

Thanks for any help!

I doubt that it is defective since it's software not hardware, but anything is possible.

This is what I would try:

Change it to a different amount of time, like one minute.

Then I'd reboot the phone.

After you restart it, go back to those settings and change it back to 5 minutes and see what happens.

Give that a shot ;-)

Good morning korkyk,

I'm curious about Step 4 "the screen turns off"

"Off" as in black, can't see the clock (or any widgets)?

If so, you're correct, something isn't right!

With my phone locked and the "Always On" display activated, I can see the clock, my widgets, and any notifications. The screen is just dimmed.

I don't use Face ID and because of that, I'm afraid that I'm not going to be of much more assistance to you. I'm not sure how much of a difference that is going to make, maybe not much. If the phone is sitting locked, face up, on the kitchen table, you're standing near the table, but the camera can't see your face, I have to imagine that you should be able to see the clock at least.

I'll look around in the settings and I'll report back if I find anything.

In the meantime, hopefully IdrisSeabright will come along shortly.

Wait a minute. I just read your question again and I guess I need a clarification or two.

1. You mention "engage the screen". Is the phone locked at that time? Auto-Lock would be locking the phone after a set amount of time that it has been sitting idle and unlocked.

2 You mentioned "Auto-On Display" is set to on. I believe that you are referring to "Always On Display" being set to on. The Always On Display has to do with when the phone is currently just sitting there and locked.

Can you clarify these for me?

Sure, and thank you for your willingness to help.

So, the sequence would be this.

1) Click the right button to turn the screen off.

2) Now touch the screen - the screen comes up and you'll see a tiny lock on the left side of the Dynamic Island unlock.

3) Wait approximately 5-8 seconds...

4) The screen turns off.

Note that AOD (always on display-I apologize!) is enabled with wallpaper off.

Low power mode is OFF

Require attention for Face ID is ON

Attention Aware Features is OFF

Auto-Lock is set to 5 minutes.

I am able to use Face ID.

It dawns on me that there may just be a "state" of the screen (the lock screen) that is only active for 5-6 seconds and that the "Auto-Lock" setting only applies when you are not on the lock screen, using the phone it self. If so, I feel rather foolish that I just never noticed this!!

When I check this same situation on my old iPhone 11 pro, the screen stays live longer, 10-15 seconds, as opposed to the iPhone 14 pro which dims and goes out within 5-6 seconds.
