Painfully Slow Text in Keynote

I am simply trying to type into my marginally-sized Keynote (300MB). Whenever I double click to edit type I get a loading pinwheel for several seconds, then I begin typing and get another pinwheel for several seconds. Once I stop and try editing again, I once again get another pinwheel. I have not once attempted to edit or create any text without waiting upwards of a minute before positive progress...I have uninstalled and reinstalled keynote. I've quit all other applications – no help. I am on the new apple chip and I am wondering if that's an issue or if keynote needs a big update..,. Either way, this had made using Keynote nearly impossible for me.

Just deleting and re-installing Keynote, in most cases, does not fix any issues.

Therefore, two things to try:

first create a new user account and test Keynote as per this Apple User Guide:

Add a user or group on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

If this does not correct the issue, reset Keynote as follows by completing all of the following steps,

in the order listed:

  1. close all applications
  2. uninstall Keynote; for this procedure to work, an application removal tool must be used, App Delete has a free trial and works for this procedure. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website here:  App Delete
  3. empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash)
  4. restart the Mac (Apple Menu > Restart) and immediately press the shift key on the keyboard, release the shift key when the Apple icon appears. Start up will take longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair of the start up drive
  5. after the Mac is fully powered up, restart the Mac normally:   Apple Menu > Restart
  6. reinstall Keynote from the Mac App Store Application
