Not getting notifications of messages from only one person.

My wife’s iPhone allows her to get notifications and vibrations when she gets a text message from everyone… except one person. She gets the text messages, when she looks later they are always there, but no text tone or vibration. So she gets a text but does not know it and therefore does not answer promptly. This only happens with one out of all of her contacts, her sister in law. Her sister in law also has an iPhone. I have searched the web and tried checking things in contacts and in settings and every toggle and option is set the same as the rest of her contacts. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Hi there Herd72,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand your wife's iPhone is not alerting her when a single contact sends her a message. Is that right?

To start with, be sure her device is updated to the latest version of iOS. Before updating, we recommend backing up your iPhone first. These articles can be of help. When you back up, you can back up using a Mac or PC rather than iCloud if you choose.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update iOS on iPhone

It sounds like you've done some great troubleshooting. Just to be sure, make sure that sounds are enabled at Settings > Sounds (or Sounds & Haptics) > Text Tone. Also, be sure that the Ring/Silent switch on the device is not engaged as well.

Perhaps your wife has muted the conversation? This will silence the notifications.

Mute notifications for a conversation:

  1. In the Messages list, touch and hold a conversation.
  2. Tap Hide Alerts.

Change message notifications on iPhone

That should help.

Take care.
