Filter error while printing PDF

I have a new iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021), running macOS Monterey. While printing PDF an error occurs "stoped - 'filter' - failed". I tried as seen below but the problem is still there. What to do??

With help of Bowdoin I tried as follows:

Reset the Printing System

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.
  • Click Printers and Scanner / Print and Scan or Print and Fax.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system.
  • Click Reset in the confirmation window.
  • Restart your computer

Re-Install Printers

    • Go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
    • Click the Add button (+).
    • Installed my printer

Hi Jan, thanks for your support on forehand.

The printer is connected via a USB hub. The problems occur with printing only, the scanner works correctly.

AirPrint I don't know. I read the command and manual but did not find what to change on the things I have already done.

I installed the Canon driver today but that did not solve the problem.

I reset the printing system as shown in my first post, that did not solve the problem.

I did throw away the printer several times and installed my printer again. This installing is not a problem, because it is shown as a known printer

Thank you for the information.

About AirPrint: An AirPrint-enabled printer is compatible with macOS, and can be used without additional drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) connections.

What happens if you, just as a test (after another printing system reset, and with USB disconnected), wire the Ethernet port on the printer to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router, and then (after power-cycling the router, the printer, and the Mac) try to add the printer to use AirPrint (without installing any drivers)?

It must be something more simple I should say. The scanner part of the printer is working so there is a connection with the mac. The printer is connected to the mac directly (without the use of a LAN) via a small USB hub (because the mac has this small USB ports only)

The printer does not have wi-fi. I don't know why my printer is listed in the AirPrint list

What you ask is a lot of trouble, because the router is far from the place of the printer. Before I had a mac 27" which worked with the printer for years!

Yes, probably, but what? Are you sure that you have installed the correct Canon driver version? You may have noticed that there are two MF printer drivers (V10.11.8 and V10.11.9) listed under macOS 12 (Monterey).

AirPrint works with wireless or wired network connections.

Yes, I understand that now. The printer location was not known to me. It was merely a suggestion in order to try to get the printer working until the issue has been solved.

This system version is mentioned as the last one for the driver V10.11.8. However, the next driver, V10.11.9, seems to cover everything up to macOS 13 Ventura. I have no idea which one to use.

If of any interest, there is a user guide for driver V10.11.8:

Also, getting back to the suggested temporary AirPrint test/workaround:

If you have access to an old Wi-Fi router that is not used any more (almost any model with two or more LAN ports should work), it could be placed next to the printer. The idea is to create a separate test network for printing purposes only.

The important part is the local network side (LAN/WLAN) of the router. The WAN (Internet) port would not be used (a computer may complain about no Internet, but it ought to work anyway). The printer would be connected by a short Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports. A Mac computer could be wired to another LAN port, or use Wi-Fi. This experiment may be of interest if it takes time to solve the original printing problem.
