Airdrop from iphone to mac not working

This started about a year ago - the macbook shows up as an option to airdrop on my phone, when I click on it nothing happens. After a long delay, I can hear the airdrop "sound", but no accept/decline notification. About a minute later, the notification pops up saying the airdrop was cancelled.

For the record:

  • Waiting a long period of time does not seem to help. I only get a notification AFTER I've cancelled the airdrop.
  • I've restarted my computer (and phone, but phone is not the issue) many times.
  • I have messed around many times toggling wifi and bluetooth AND the actual airdrop settings on and off.

Please how do you fix this! This is actually causing me so many issues. I can't email large files to my mac, and airdrop would be so much more convenient.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hello missizzay,

If you don't believe the issue is with the iPhone, but the Mac, make sure you're not using a VPN or security software on the Mac. As these can cause issues with the network and connections: Check VPN (Virtual Private Network) and third-party software to help resolve network connectivity issues

If you are using a VPN, security software or profiles use the following steps:

  1. Make sure the Time & Date are correct in System Preferences > Date & Time.
  2. Make sure you have a valid IP address from the Wi-Fi network in System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi.
  3. Remove the VPN, security software, or profiles from the Mac.
  4. Disable any login items: Open items automatically when you log in on Mac
  5. Forget the Wi-Fi network in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > select the network, then tap - to remove it.
  6. Restart the Mac normally using the Apple menu > Restart

Test it out.
