AirDrop between Mac and iPhone not working

When I try to Airdrop from my phone to my mac the file will not send (File size only a few hundred kb). This issue has been going on for a few weeks although it has worked for many years. My mac is detected on my phone's airdrop screen and when I send the file it says "waiting" but will not send. Airdrop from mac to iPhone works just fine. Both devices are connected to the same WiFi and have Bluetooth on as well as Airdrop set to "everyone". I am using a mid 2015 MBP and an iPhone 12 with the latest updates. I have tried restarting both devices with no luck. My privacy settings are allowing incoming connections from apple software.
