Photo Metadata - IPTC - Ventura 13.1

Hi,

I have a problem that in the current OS Ventura 13.1 it is not possible to find IPTC tags in photos on an external disk (ExFAT) even if they are written in the file.

If I copy the photos to the PC, they too show up and the file can be searched. But on an external disk this is not possible. Is there any solution to locate the photos on the extermin disk?

In the old days I used a Windows computer and IrfanView to write keywords and geotag photos but when I switched to Mac I imported them into Photos. However, I would like to remove some geotags completely as well as keywords etc. from the originals. I mean those photos outside the "app" which can be viewed inside the library file. Tagging Imports into Photos with Folder Name Is there a way to preserve the folder names of image libraries when importing into Photos? Or somehow to create a tag or metadata to the file? The purpose is being able to search for old photos that I have on my Mac that are arranged through folders. I want to bring them in Photos app but it’s pointless if I can’t find “Phuket 2003” photos (from my folder). I think there must be a way. Could Automator somehow rename files in all of my folder to be named after the folder? Or tag them? Anyone have any efficient ways of doing this? It’s a massive photo library that I’d love to bring to all of my devices.

Photos search box no longer finds most files, but Smart Album does MacOS version Big Sur 11.6.7 (20G630) Photos Version 6.0 (361.0.100) A month ago, when I used the MacOS Photos app general search box to look for a filename like “Box 10 z” it would show the 92 photos with filenames starting with that string (e.g. “Box 10 z 1981 Mexico.jpg”). But today, that stopped working. (I see 0 of the files, whereas a month ago I saw 92)… However, today, if I do a “Smart Album” with the criteria “filename” “Includes” “Box 10 z” it shows the 92 photos. So they are there. Just not showing up when using the search box. I submitted this to apple feedback, but I can’t do my job as efficiently anymore due to this issue, so any fixes would be greatly appreciated (Since composing this, I did an update to “MacOS 11.6.8 (20G730)”, but it didn’t fix the issue)

The external disk must use APFS or Mac OS Extended format for Spotlight support so Finder can show the image metadata. A workaround for non-Mac formats like exFAT is to use some other app that can read that data (GraphicConverter, exiftool, Preview etc).

Thank you. Well, that's very uncomfortable. Older macOS didn't have a problem with this.

I formatted the external drive on Mac OS Extended, but the IPTC tags are still not displayed.

I'm getting tired. I didn't wait for the external drive to index :) so everything works :)
