Photo storage

So if I import pictures to Photos, can I then delete the jpeg I imported? I am scanning old photos and adding them to photo library but program I'm using does jpegs. I must then import them to photos. Should I delete the original scanned jpegs to free up space?

If you are running a "managed" library

you can delete the jpeg files after importing. I would also check the library to make sure all photos were imported correctly before deleting the source files from the hard drive.
