If you see individual jpg or HEIF file, then it is safe to delete them from your iPhone.
Hi Lawrence, I just backed up 20,000 odd photos and videos in my photo library on my MacBook to an external backup drive. I thought the photos would move over individually but during the back up it has created a tonne of dated folders and within those folders are all the photos taken on that date. The images are named with .heic at the end. It also tells me that it’s a “HEIF Image” plus the photo MB size. Am I safe to delete all of these photos and videos on my MacBook? Will they be retained in the drive?
If the photos are individual files on the external drive, and not in an Apple photo library database, then you can safely delete the photos from your iPhone.
Open your external drive with Finder on a Mac or Explorer on Windows. Do you see one photolibrary file, or lots of individual jpg or heic files.
I dropped and dragged the photo icon from the taskbar and saved it onto my flash drive and external hard drive. Are those individual files? I’m not quite understanding what you mean.
