Lost all my photos when changed apple ID

I changed my phone and in error changed my apple ID. I replaced my old apple Id name and password with a new one but later come to find out that it actually deleted the account and made a totally new account which I did not want to do, I wanted to just replace the old username/password with a new. Anyway, I used that account for my icloud, all my pictures have gone. I tried to locate and find my past account and couldn't find it. I even tried to reset the password thinking it would activate it again or that i could change the password to get in. Nothing. Please tell me, how can i restore my lost/deleted apple id account. And if i were to restore this old account can i deactivate this current one that i don't want without it messing up my pictues and contacts, ect. oh and will all my stuff on icloud be restore too if i find my old account.
