The sender address was invalid

Email from my own domain name works fine on iPad iOS 16.2 but using EXACTLY the same set up details, including the optional username and password for the outgoing server settings, in my iPhone 12 iOS 16.2 returns the error “Cannot Send Mail. The sender address was invalid”

Clearly this is an issue on the iPhone only. iPad works as expected.

Using iOS Spark on iPhone to send email works ok too.

So unsure why this is suddenly a problem on my relatively up to date iPhone.

Have tried pretty much everything!

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities CheesedOffWithIT,

The following page addresses issues sending messages in Mail: If you can’t send email on your iPhone or iPad

If you've already confirmed that the settings being used are correct, you can bypass the "Check your email address and password section, and move to the next section:

Contact your email provider or system administrator
1: Contact your email provider or check their status webpage to see if there's a service outage.
2: Ask your email provider or system administrator if you turned on any security features or restrictions, like two-step verification, for your email account. You might need a special password or might need to request authorization from your email provider to send and receive email on your device.
3: Check your email account settings with your email provider or system administrator to make sure that they're correct.

Take care!
