Ventura 13.1 Pressing Enter, Scrolling, and Highlighting in TextEdit and Stickies

After updating to Ventura 13.1, pressing enter in textedit and scrolling while highlighting does not work. The document jumps around when I press enter and I cannot scroll and highlight at the same time. Apple Support could only say that it is an Operating System issue and suggested a clean installation.

Given the time that it takes, I don't think this is a good fix. I think something is wrong with Ventura.

Has anyone else faced the same issue?

Something may very well be wrong with Ventura which is why re-installation was suggested. There's a million files and dependency trees among the files as well as configurations and variables too numerous to validate all of it and fix bizarre issues like this.

But before you go down the path of nuking and paving the operating system, try creating a new user account and testing the problem in that new user account. If the problem goes away in the new user account then there is something in your primary user account configuration settings that is messed up. The ~/Library folder contains a lot of settings and there might be a broken XML configuration file in there somewhere. If the problem still exists, in the new user account then it's a system level issue and a re-install would be advised.

Backup your data and re-install macOS Ventura from scratch as cleanly as possible. The process will be different if you are on Intel versus an Apple Silicon (M1 / M2) Mac.
