Emails often not sending and not found in Drafts or Outbox (simply disappear).

Almost every other time I send an email, it just disappears. It's not in my Sent folder and it's not in Drafts or Outbox. I have confirmed with the intended recipient that the email was not delivered. This only started happening a few months ago. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? When I realize this has happened, I have to write the email again from scratch since there doesn't appear to be any trace of it. Worse, sometimes I don't realize until I go to follow up with the intended recipient.

I have a few email accounts set up in my Mail app, but I really only send emails from the one account so I don't know if this issue affects all of the accounts or not. The account it is happening with is a Gmail account -- I believe it's a G Suite account (?); the domain is not

"gmail", but it was set up through Gmail by my university's Alumni department). I have an iPhone 11 Pro.

I just tested and it is happening with multiple accounts. Any idea on how I address this with my iPhone?

Hello mshaughn,

The key to finding a solution to an issue like this is to isolate where the issue is occurring.

With that in mind, since you have multiple email accounts, you will want to definitely determine if this is happening with one or multiple accounts.

If it is only with the one account, then we would suggest you work with your University's Alumni IT team to troubleshoot what is happening.

Also, if you have any other devices with that account on it, test from there and see if the issue occurs. This would also point towards an issue with the account, rather than the iPhone.

If it is happening with multiple accounts, then we should suggest turning your focus to the iPhone itself.

Have a good day.

Hello mshaughn,

Since it's occurring with multiple accounts, the easiest option is to remove the accounts, and then restart your device.

Once restarted, you will re-add the accounts, and see if that corrects the issues.

Make sure your email accounts and emails are on some other device, just in case you have issues. Also, you want to ensure you have a backup before any major system changes: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

The reason to ensure the emails are on another device is in the case that one of your accounts is a POP email account, meaning the emails aren't saved on the server, so they would not redownload to this device once you set them up again. If that's the case, you can forward the most important emails from your other device.

If that's not something you are worried about, or you know all your accounts are IMAP accounts, then go ahead. You can look up each account settings here just to be sure: Mail Settings Apple

When ready:

  1. Remove all the accounts with issues: Add and remove email accounts on iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Re-add your accounts one-by one.
  4. Test.

Thanks.
