Walkie Talkie works one-way or stays stuck at 'Checking Availability'

Literally at my wits end with this now. Spent an hour+ with Apple support a few weeks ago trying to get it work. Worked for under an hour and then died again. We welcomed our new baby and now when we need/CAN use it the most, it doesn't work.

Did the whole Facetime sign-out/sign-in

Make sure we're added, watches updated, phones updated

Disable/enable Facetime, reboot iphone, reboot watch

Unpaired and re-paired my watch, her watch

Signed out and Setup our watches from new (no backup re-pair)

Deleted the app and re-installed, worked for 3 minutes and then back to 'Checking Availability'

Mine - iPhone 13Pro/AW series 7

Hers - iPhone 14Pro Max/AW series 6

She's on my family shared iCloud plan, she's my emergency contact BUT I cannot Walkie-Talkie her, and she can intermittently reach out to me.

Both our watches are under AppleCare+, Is there a QOS for included Apps not working? I'm looking for solutions that are (a)other than all those listed above and (b) do not point me to the 'Using Apple Watch' guide. Apologies for the rant, but this is frustrating!

Hi there jaym434,

You'll want to be sure you've tried all the steps below if Walkie-Talkie isn't working as expected:

Get help
If your iPhone isn't nearby, you can use Walkie-Talkie with a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Learn how to use your Apple Watch when your iPhone isn't nearby.
For more help, find your issue below.
If you don't see the Walkie-Talkie app
1. FaceTime is required for Walkie-Talkie to work, so if you've deleted it, re-download FaceTime on your iPhone. Open the App Store on your iPhone, search for FaceTime, then tap the download button the Download icon
2. Make sure that FaceTime is turned on. Open the Settings app, tap FaceTime, then turn on FaceTime.
3. Open the FaceTime app. To make sure FaceTime is set up correctly, try making a call.
4. Restart your Apple Watch.
5. Restart your iPhone.
If you have FaceTime on your iPhone and don't see the Walkie-Talkie app on your watch, you might have deleted it. Open the App Store on your Apple Watch and re-download it.
FaceTime is not available in all countries or regions.

If you're having issues sending and receiving invitations
1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app, then tap FaceTime. Make sure that you're signed in with your Apple ID. Under You Can Be Reached By FaceTime At, make sure that your email address is selected.
2. Restart your Apple Watch.
3. Restart your iPhone.
4. Try to send the invitation again. On your Apple Watch, open the Walkie-Talkie app, swipe left on the contact, then tap the delete button . Tap the plus button , then choose the same contact.

You'll find those steps here: Use Walkie-Talkie on your Apple Watch

If the issue persists beyond that, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support again for more guidance. This link will help you get started: Contact - Official Apple Support
