sleep focus: turn off all notification but allow calls from certain people

I know how to allow notifications from specific people ('"allowed people" and then allow calls from them. But the notifications wake me up when I am sleeping. I cannot find any help on turning off all notifications but allowing calls from certain people to go through when I am sleeping. I also don't know if the phone will ring if I have the volume and ringer turned off - so I need some guidance here too. Is it possible to have different settings on my watch on my arm (I sleep with it on) and on my nearby phone?

the answer doesn't distinguish between phone calls and notifications. but the link to the apple manual provides a workaround; changing the settings in contacts. my goal is to allow middle of the night emergency calls through but not the messages they may be sending that i am copied on.

If you allowed notifications from specific people, you can still receive the messages when Focus is turning on. So this means you can get calls and notifications from them. You can go to Settings>Focus>Allowed People and adjust 'Allow calls from' and 'Allow repeated calls'. If you have made your iPhone muted, you will still receive the notifications but without sound. the following article shows you Allow or silence notifications for a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support
