Why does my phone start playing music after I use Siri?

Whether my music app is open or not, anytime that I use Siri whether I press the side button to summon or I use the Hey Siri command, immediately afterward my music will start playing from wherever I payed the last I was listening to music. Also, if I use dictation, immediately afterward, my music will also start playing. it happens every time and it is ultra annoying.

why? And how do I stop it?

Sorry, I didn’t specify but it only happens when connected to Bluetooth devices. Most notably my vehicle receiver.

and restarting the phone doesn’t resolve the issue.

Greetings curtixman,

Music shouldn't start playing unless requested to do so when using Siri. Since having this issue have you restarted your iPhone? If not, restarting is a great step that can resolve many issues. For reference, the steps for restarting iPhone X and later models can be found below. You can also find these steps, along with the steps to restart other iPhone models in the following article.

  1. "Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

Restart your iPhone

If you continue to have issues after restarting the iPhone, ensuring your iPhone running the latest iOS is another great step that can provide a solution. If you need to reference the steps for updating iOS, those steps are outlined in the following article.

Hi curtixman,

To confirm, what version of iOS are you running? Updating may apply fixes that could resolve the issue. Also, are you using CarPlay or just connecting using Bluetooth? Have you checked your deck settings to see if there is something there you can change to ensure this doesn't happen? Here is that link on updating if you haven't already.

Cheers!
