0 Photos Scanned

I have 90,058 photos. I click People and it shows 0 Photos scanned. Been like this since I recently had to log out of iCloud to fix an unrelated email problem. My photos synch with iCloud and my Mac and iPhone. The whole library is showing again on my Mac now that the images have re-dowloaded. Have been running Ventura for about 4 weeks. Some photos taken on iPhone have faces assigned, assume iPhone worked it out. Photos taken on Canon camera and imported aren't scanned. Question 1, how do I force Photos on Mac to start scanning, I obviously can't go through 90,000 photos? It would be highly advantageous if the app showed where it was up to so I/we knew if it was actually working. Question 2, when clicking people it says Photos will continue scanning your remaining 90,058 photos when you're not using the app and your Mac is connected to power. Does this mean the app has to be Open or Closed? As in Open but not being used, or Closed? I've left Mac on for days, and tried leaving app open and closed and it continues to say 0 Photos Scanned. Question 3, I have 338 People with faces assigned from previous scanning. Does anybody happen to know how to automatically put them in alphabetical order? Dragging is very time consuming.

To get the scanning started, launch Photos after you sign unto your user account, to start the background processes, then close Photos, so it can work in the background.

And be patient. You are having quite a few photos. For my library with 55000 photos it took more than two weeks, before the message "0 photos scanned" changed to show some progress. If there is already a button "View People album" click it to see the people previously scanned.

On macOS Ventura you can sort the scanned people automatically. It is one of the really nice improvements in Photos 8 on Ventura. With the People album open, go to the Menu item "View > Sort > By Name".

While waiting for the scanning to finish, you may also want to check, if if there are any problems with the iCloud syncing. Is the status bar below the "All Photos" view showing any problematic item, for example "Unable to upload" or "on this Mac only"? These would need to be fixed, before the scanning can proceed. See: Check the status of your library in Photos for macOS - Apple Support

And also, after the upgrade to Ventura, older, previously neglected problems, may now be causing problems. For example, it is essential to keep the Photos Library in a supported location, if you are keeping the library on an external volume. See, if the folder, where you are keeping your library is compatible with Photos, as described here: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks léonie

Okay sounds like I need to wait, fingers crossed. I can not imagine why Apple don't provide a progress bar. (Prior to the changes made above it seemed to be jammed for months, again with no increase on the number of Photos Scanned)

You mentioned check iCloud Synching. This appears okay, when I click Library, then All Photos, then go all the way to bottom beneath the photo thumbnails it says Synced with iCloud Just Now.

Regarding keeping photos in supported location. Given I am synching them to iCloud, I assume that's where they're stored. Is iCloud a supported location? It seems my Library Location is set to my Mac (see screen capture). Do I need to change this to iCloud as the Library Location?

Very happy People can now be sorted alphabetically, thanks.
