AirPlay to (Sony) Android TV video not streaming, only audio
I’m just starting another thread about a rather annoying bug, in the hope Apple will pick this one up. The behavior of the bug is pretty specific and reproducible on multiple devices. It has not been fixed since iPadOS 15.2.
iPadOS and android TV are all up to date. All standard suggestions to fix, such as resetting network devices, settings, etc, did not work.
- When playing streaming video using the AirPlay button in Safari on iPad only audio stream is played on android TV AirPlay system app. Video is not displayed, only the video title (from meta data).
- when using the same button in Safari on iPhone the stream works correctly with video and audio playing.
Mirroring display functionally works. This is irrelevant because it is fundamentally a different technology. Here video stream is generated on the iPad and send to the tv as such.
The AirPlay streaming button sends a URL to the Android TV, which opens the stream by using AirPlay Player.
The most telling thing is, imo, streams open correctly by iOS. Used multiple iPad and iPhone to test this over multiple operating versions. All with the same result. No video, just audio on iPadOS. Works fine on iPhone iOS. I think the last time it worked on my iPad I was on iPad os 14.x Also tried multiple websites and web players. Same results.
What is so fundamentally different between the behavior of iOS Safari compared to iPad Safari, that results in the behavior?
I hope some developer can give some insight into this mystery experienced by many.
