AirPlay No Longer Streams Google Drive Videos to Smart TV — Worked Flawlessly Before
This is a serious issue that needs Apple’s attention.
For years, I’ve been uploading personal videos to my Google Drive and streaming them to my smart TV via AirPlay from my iPhone. This setup has always worked flawlessly — same TV, same iPhone, same files, same network.
Suddenly, without changing anything on my end, I can no longer stream these videos via AirPlay.
• I can still watch the video directly on my iPhone (same one used to AirPlay before).
• I can no longer stream that same video to my smart TV — playback fails or doesn’t start at all.
• Other people using the same shared link can stream it just fine to their TVs from android.
• TV and iPhone are both on the same high-speed 5G Wi-Fi (2TB plan).
• Full resets of the iPhone, TV, and network have already been done — no change.
To rule out all other variables:
• I’ve already contacted the TV manufacturer and Roku.
• Their tech support teams walked me through all diagnostics, resets, and firmware checks.
• No issues found on their end. All signs point back to Apple.
This strongly suggests the issue lies with either a recent iOS update or a deliberate change in AirPlay behavior regarding third-party apps like Google Drive.
At this point, I need a direct response from Apple:
1. Has a recent Apple update changed how AirPlay handles streaming from Google Drive?
2. Is this a known bug, or an undocumented restriction?
3. If it’s intentional, is Apple prioritizing its ecosystem at the cost of third-party functionality?
This is not user error. I’ve exhausted every troubleshooting option outside of Apple’s control. I’m requesting an official acknowledgment or fix.
If Apple is silently restricting AirPlay from third-party apps, users deserve transparency.
