iPhone 14 pro proximity sensor not functioning well in whatsapp and 3rd party apps

The normal behavior:

When placing the phone on your ear during a WhatsApp call or listening to a voice note, the screen should automatically go black to prevent accidental touches.

The current behavior (issue description):

When placing the phone on your ear during a WhatsApp call or listening to a voice note, the screen take 5-6 seconds to go black. happens in all 3rd party app calls & voice notes but doesn't happen with native apps.

I tested more than 5 different iPhone 14 pro and pro max they all had the same issue.

Has anyone figured out a way to solve this?

Hi hammadyousef,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We would like to clarify, by Voice Notes, are you referring to the Voice Memos app? If so, we recommend that you reach out to Apple Support directly to take a further look. Please reach out here:

If this is however only occurring with third party apps, we would suggest the steps below that may also help:

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

I’m happy to see someone that has this problem. I contacted the Apple support and they told me that “it is normal”.

Guys it is not normal.. it is not normal that the touchscreen stays on while my phone is touching my face while I’m hearing a voice notes, this problem happens with WA and Telegram.

This problem does not happens with the phone calls, so the proximity sensor works fun just iOS is a mess.

I agree! it is not normal at all, I tested several 14 pros and pro maxs they all have the same issue!

So it is obviously a bug in the 14 pro series that needs to be fixed.

I contacted apple support and did trouble shooting and even re installed a fresh ios with the same result.

I am seriously considering switching back to my old 13 pro which works perfectly..
