Music playback frequently stuttering

I'm on a 6 month old Mac M1 14" w/ 64g RAM, and this thing still can't manage to play music without stuttering. It happens whether I'm streaming over Wi-Fi on Spotify, streaming over a wired connection with Spotify, or just listening to music whose files live locally on Music for Mac.

I've rebooted umpteen times, and the activity monitor never shows that my CPU, memory, disk, etc are stressed at all.

The stuttering comes and goes too. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, and that includes directly after a reboot.

It's happening right now, for instance, and I just rebooted. The only windows open are one Safari window with one tab open, Apple Music, and the activity monitor. CPU is about ~96% idle, one 14.6g of memory is being used, and the disk is barely active.

There is an article for troubleshooting apps. Since it seems to be narrowed down to these two apps, have you seen and tried the steps found using the link below? While the title doesn't match the exact issue you are experiencing, the steps are still good ones to try for what you are going through.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

Often problems like that can be caused by old stuff (you'd be surprised how many people have upgraded their macs continuously since El Capitan or earlier) that at some point breaks. This is especially so when there has been an architectural change like going to Apple Silicon.

The report may point some problematic stuff that we can help you take care of.
