Facebook Messenger links won’t open in external browser

I just received a new iPad Air 5 as a gift, and installed the new iOS 16.2

When someone sends me a link in a Facebook Messenger chat, and I click the link, the link opens a small window within the Facebook Messenger app. I would like the link to open in Safari, but I cannot find any setting anywhere, in Facebook, Facebook Messenger, or Safari, that will allow me to do this.

Essentially I want Facebook Messenger to open links in an external browser. It’s a pretty simple thing, and in previous versions of iOS this was easy to do. But in iOS 16.2 I cannot find the setting to change this.

Thank you

iPad Air, iPadOS 16

Hi LeonardShelby,

The app developer would be the best resource for information on the settings that are available within the Messenger app. If needed, this article has steps that will help you contact them: How to contact an app developer.

Contact the developer of an iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS app

1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.

Best regards.
