left shift key on silicon mac wiventura not functioning properly

Have a new MacBook Air M2 with Ventura. After upgrade to 13.1 my left shift key started acting odd, isolating windows and exposing the dock. I cannot type capital letters. I have wiped the computer twice, and migrated my applications and documents via Migration Assistant from a Time Machine backup, but the problem remains. I have defaulted all keyboard settings. Apple Support escalated the problem two levels up and did a screen share but could not figure out the issue. Anyone having a similar issue? Thanks in advance.

Any spill or food near the keyboard could cause a problem.

System Settings for Keyboard has an FN key toggle which can change the functionality of shift commands on the F-keys. See if the keyboard settings need to be changed.

Thank you for your reply, but the key works fine, but does not function as it should- it is not a mechanical issue. Turned the FN key toggle on and off and this does not affect the issue unfortunately.

Just to add, since the key doesn't function as it should, it clearly doesn't "work fine". It may still be a mechanical issue.

Try booting into Safe Mode, then restart normally.

I did try the Safe Mode boot and reboot- again no change. You may be correct in that it could be a mechanical issue.

Actually, open System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Mission Control > Shortcuts. Show Desktop should be set to F11 and not "Left Shift".

And nothing in System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Mission Control > Shortcuts is set to Left Shift?

If not, I don't have an answer. Perhaps someone else will.

You're welcome. You might want to check System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts… and make sure Left Shift isn't set anywhere.
