Automatic app updates happening during the day?

So, this has been a source of annoyance for a long time. And I had thought it might change with the newest iOS, but it didn’t. I am on an iPhone 12 running 16.1.1.

I’ll wake up in the morning and be using my phone and a bunch of apps will suddenly start updating. Why didn’t they update overnight while the phone was on the charger & connected to wifi, like they are supposed to? I have automatic downloads turned on. Obviously, because they started updating on their own at 10:30am EST. And this happened about 40 minutes after I grabbed the phone off the charger. It’s like the phone didn’t think to update until after I’d been using it for a few minutes.

To reiterate, it has always been this way for me ever since this automatic feature came out. I have had this phone since new and it’s always done it.

Well, I mean, “as expected would be overnight. Isn’t that when automatic updates are supposed to take place? 10:30am is not “overnight”. If this is the expected behavior of the automatic updates, then I would respectfully suggest that the “expected behavior” change to something that makes some common sense. Because sitting in a charger all night doing nothing, only to wait to start updating apps until the morning while phone is being used is pretty stupid.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread. It’s an existing feature that isn’t working correctly. Automatic app updates are supposed to occur overnight while the device is charging and on wifi. My problem is that automatic app updates seem to happen frequently during the day. For example, the day I posted this, I was using my phone for about a half an hour, and while in the middle of using it, at approximately 10:30am est, a bunch of apps started updating.

My understanding of the way the auto app update feature is supposed to work is that they happen at night. Not during the day. Why am I experiencing auto app updates at that time? That shouldn’t be happening.
