Your passcode is required to enable Face ID - asked frequently

I can see this is a common issue and maybe one either I haven’t seen the fix for, or one Apple need to fix

Multiple times a day my iPhone asks for my passcode to enable faceid

other searches give generic checks to go through to try and resolve it, but ultimately those aren’t fixes

is there something I am missing to fix this issue?

i had this issue for the last year and a half on my iPhone 12 and have just bought a 14 plus and multiple times daily i have to enter my passcode

example scenario: I just took my dog for a walk and left my phone at home, upon return after half an hour I am asked to enter my passcode, why?

any help?
