Update for advanced data protection

Updated both iPads and iPhone to 16.2. Have an old MacBook Pro from mid 2014 running Big Sur 11.7.2 (waiting impatiently for the 16” MacBook Air🙏🤞). When trying to turn on advanced data protection I get the message to remove my MacBook Pro from my account. What, if any, consequences would this cause? Can I turn advanced data protection on then add my MacBook to my account again?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

You wouldn't be able to sign in to your iCloud account on that device any more.

No. Here are the details: How to turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud - Apple Support

Apple says, "Updated software on all of the devices where you're signed in with your Apple ID:" (emphasis is from Apple).

Warning:

I was unable to activate Advanced Data Protection because of an old iPhone on my iCloud account. I removed the iPhone from my iCloud account (it is no longer listed under devices) but when trying to enable Advanced Data Protection I still get an error message that the iPhone OS needs to be updated. And I am suck.
