Big Sur 11.7.2 update on 2014 iMac causing VPN connectivity issues...

Hi Folks,

I just updated my 2014 iMac to the latest relevant Big Sur MacOS version - 11.7.2 and it my VPN connectivity to work no longer works. I have other (newer) Macs which continue to connect fine - same network, same credentials, same settings/config.

I see there are some security updates/fixes in the 11.7.2 release notes, but it appears to have caused me this issue!

I've restarted a couple of times, tried recreating the VPN connection, tried different VPN targets but without any success.

Anybody have similar issues? Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Many thanks,

Dave

Based on the below, I reinstalled Big Sur, but it didn't make any difference.

Here's what I see in /var/log/ppp.log, the memory message looks suspicious?

Hi ,

I have a "dantesque" case that the worst besides the Forticlient VPN does not work I can't delete the app, the Forticlient is padlocked and even reinstalling and trying to change my user's permissions I can't remove that padlock and so little "delete"

Has anyone gone through this, if so how did you manage to delete an app with a padlock?

Thanks in advance,

Rosemeire

Hi! Been there, done that! I also tried Forticlient but couldn't get it to work. But I found a solution to delete the app:

Open terminal, cd to applications and type: sudo chflags -hv noschg FortiClient.app/

That will remove the padlock and you can then run sudo rm -R FortiClient.app/ to delete the app.

I'm still really annoyed at apple for not fixing this issue with the VPN-client. My current solution is to connect to VPN on an older Mac I have at home and running internet sharing on that machine to my work-computer. Not a very neat solution since I have to run all internet-traffic over the VPN if I want to access the web at the same time, but at least I can access the files in my office now.

I am also having this problem after updating to BigSur 11.7.2. I am using an L2TP VPN connection set up on a 2015 Macbook Pro through the Network settings in System Preferences. It now refuses to connect due to the security changes in the update. I must be able to remote in for work! Any other recommendations for third-party VPN clients that could solve this problem? I see one vote for HotspotShield below. Any other fixes?
