Super Drive connected to my MacBookAir through a connection box. The laptop tells me the USB accessory needs power. When my backup disc is connected through the same port it gets power. With an adapter the laptop doesn't see it.

Why doesn't my MacBookAir see the Superdrive or if it sees it tells e it needs power?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.0

an apple USB superdrive will not work when connected through a dock or hub. it needs to be connected directly to the Mac. and with Macs that only have TB3 ports, you need an USB-C to USB Adapter to connect it directly to the Mac.
