If you paid upfront in total, it expires. You can try and see if you can renew it but that is not available everywhere.

That is what insurance is about: you pay and may never need it. But when you do, you are glad you have it. I've gotten 1 macbook and 2 iPads replaced free of charge because I had Applecare.
